Building Tool

The hammer that opens the build menu: conveyors, robots, factories, power and garages.

Last verified: November 2026 · Steam release build

Overview

The Building Tool moves, places and removes every structure in the game. Buying it costs $50; using it needs a free tool belt slot, so pair it with the $15 second belt slot so you can carry a broom and the hammer at the same time.

The build menu groups structures into robots (Robot Vacuum Mk1/Mk2 and JONAS), logistics (conveyor belt, packager, merger, splitter, capsule catcher), production (Pressure Chamber, Stone Press), power (solar), services (garage) and construction pieces (foundations, ramps, stairs).

Placement controls

R picks up and repositions a placed structure without deleting it, X removes it with a full refund, and F toggles between free placement and snapping. When a piece refuses to snap, press F to return to snap mode. Hold Ctrl and scroll to raise or lower a conveyor so it can pass over another belt; plain scroll changes where a splitter or merger output lands.

Older builds only refunded 75% on removal and did not allow building on dust. Both were changed: you can now place structures straight on top of dust, and the dust underneath counts as cleaned.

Tips

  • Check which side is the input before placing a Pressure Chamber or Stone Press — the inputs are specific.
  • Building on top of dusty hexes is a cheap way to finish awkward ones.
