Sectors & Regions

The whole moon is tiled with 163,841 hexagons. Every one of them has to be cleaned. Understanding how the game counts them is the difference between a tidy finish and hours of hunting for a single stubborn hex.

The hex grid

Sectors (also called regions or sections in-game) are numbered hexes — the very first one outside North Station is sector 58066. The HUD shows your current sector and its percentage in the top right. Press G to draw the borders on the ground. Hexes cover everything: valleys, crater floors, mountain sides and both poles. There is no world border; the moon is a full sphere.

The 99% rule

A hex counts as cleaned once it passes 99%. You do not need every speck. This grace margin is why lane sweeping works: two or three passes and a quick mop-up of corners is enough. Keep an eye on the percentage instead of the ground.

Region bonus

Finishing a hex pays a one-off bonus: $10 base, $25 with Region Bounty I and $40 with Region Bounty II. The bonus is paid by whatever finishes the hex — you, a vehicle, a robot vacuum or JONAS. Because the bonus is locked in when the hex completes, leave nearly-done hexes unfinished right before buying a bounty level.

Moon percentage

MilestoneHexesTypical point in a run
1% ("You Missed a Spot")≈ 1,640A dozen or so JONAS, first AFK night
10%≈ 16,40040–100 JONAS
50%≈ 81,900Second day, 100+ JONAS overnight
100%163,841A few hundred JONAS plus manual clean-up

The percentage shown on the station moon map and in the HUD can differ slightly from the achievement trigger while the last hexes are being processed. It is common to see 99.9% and dozens of scattered hexes still left.

'Help clean' counting

The "help clean 10 / 100 / 1,000 / 10,000 regions" achievements track hexes you contributed to. Hexes finished by robots count when you are nearby; robots working on the far side of the moon do not. Driving around while your robots work is the fastest way to raise this number.

Finding unclean hexes

  • The station moon map is a heat map of progress, with counts of cleaned and partly-clean hexes.
  • Set up to 12 waypoints on unclean hexes, then go clear them.
  • Press M in the field for an overhead view; uncleaned patches stand out as darker grey.
  • Robots finish hexes one at a time but follow a fixed pattern, so they sometimes leave a hex at 98%. A broom fixes it in seconds.
  • If a hex looks clean but will not register, place a JONAS on it — it will pick it up and finish it.
Tip

Terrain

Mountains make brooms hard to aim and capsules roll away. Craters launch vehicles. Polar regions are dark much of the time. Leave the worst terrain for robots, which do not care about slopes, and save your own time for flat ground.
